SAMUKELISIWE HADEBE –
The National union of Mine Workers said it is concerned about R1722 employees that will be retrenched by the end of this month.
This follows the closure of the Pan African Resources and Evader aid shaft.
NUM spokesperson Lebowani Mamboro said the closure of Evader is a deliberate act and the company has invested billions in other projects that include mine tailing.
The company has sent letters to the workers to say that they must vacate their houses; and the house that they are staying.
He further said the mine workers have been living there for years and all of the sudden they are being retrenched and they have been told to vacate their houses and hostels.
He was also concerned about the miners children on where are they going to get education. Mamboro added that they feel that these Miners are being dumped by Evander gold field which is owned by Pan African Resources.
