On 5 October 2017 at approximately 09:30 ,six suspects entered the Store pretending to be customers. One of them drew a firearm pointed it and demanded cell phones, they also robbed one of the customers of their jewerly. Warrant Officer S.H.Thusi from Newcastle Police noticed something wrong at the store, due to his swift reaction and assistance of a Security Companies and they managed to arrest one suspect inside the shop.
Information was received that a charcoal grey VW Tiguan with Registration Number BR55PZGP suspected to be involved in the Robbery was moving towards Memel Road. Newcastle K9 members Warrant Officer T.C. Dlomo , Constable Z.R. Ngcobo and Constable K.D. Nkadinde rushed to Memel Road, while they were patrolling along Memel Road they spotted the said vehicle convoying with a charcoal grey Audi A3 with Registration Number FK57MJGP.
According to the members the both vehicles were looking suspicious and they stopped and search the vehicles. Three(3) suspects were arrested for Possession of Stolen Vehicle. VW Tiguan was circulated and it was discovered that it was stolen from Makhado , Limpopo Province. Members further searched the Audi A3 and two(2) suspects matched the description of the same suspects who robbed the MTN Shop was arrested.
Constable SX Kunene from Organised Crime noticed a ladies handbag thrown on the side of the road. Members searched the bag and found a firearm.
Cellphones with the estimated value of ±R850 000 were left by the suspect at the shop in their own bags which was recovered.
